How Can I Be Real At Work — When Everyone Else Is Fake?
I love your philosophy that we should bring ourselves to work, but it’s not always easy to follow that advice.
I work with people who act fake all the time. They smile in your face and then stab you in the back. I can’t trust them. They are nice one day and horrible the next.
I have a reputation in my company for telling the truth, but the same co-workers who beg me to bring up a sticky issue with our manager are the first ones to bash me if our manager doesn’t like the idea.
In private they tell me “You go girl — bring up that issue at the staff meeting — we are all counting on you!” but then when I say what nobody else has the guts to say, they change their tune.
They act like they’ve never heard of the problem before, even if they were the exact person who told me to bring it up! Then I’m left hanging out on my own. I feel like they threw me under the bus.
What should I do?
